The Fifteenth Judicial District of Louisiana is nestled in the heart of Cajun Country and is comprised of the three Acadiana parishes of Acadia, Lafayette and Vermilion. The total population of the 15th Judicial District is about 250,000. The courthouses of the district are located in the three parish seats of Crowley (Acadia), Lafayette (Lafayette) and Abbeville (Vermilion). About 10,000 civil cases and about 7,500 criminal cases ( not counting traffic or juvenile cases) are filed annually in the 15th Judicial District.

The caseload of the entire district is handled by thirteen elected judges, one judicial commissioner and four family court hearing officers. The thirteen judges of the district are elected from sub-districts of the whole district, called election sections. These judges all have general trial jurisdiction throughout the district and preside over individual divisions designated by the letters A through M.

Vermilion Parish

Election Section Five encompasses all of Vermilion Parish with a total population of about 50,000, of whom about 30,000 are registered voters. Two judges are elected from this section for 6 year terms and preside over Division C and Division G of the 15th Judicial District. These two judges are based in Vermilion Parish and have offices in the courthouse there.

Division G was created in 1976 by the Louisiana legislature. Judge Durwood Conque has presided over Division G since his election in 1987.

One of the most active and unique judicial districts in the state, the 15th includes the metropolitan and business hub of Acadiana (Lafayette) as well as two extremely productive rural, agricultural parishes (Acadia and Vermilion). The oil and gas industry, both inland and offshore, plays a major role in the economy of the area and generates many legal disputes over drilling and production rights and royalties, as well industry related personal injury and property damage claims.

Major agricultural pursuits in the rural parishes include rice, sugar cane, soybeans and crawfish. Inland brackish lakes, nearby Vermilion Bay and the Gulf of Mexico also provide commercial quantities of shrimp, crab, oysters and fish. Hunting and sport fishing in Vermilion Parish are unparalleled.

Welcome to Division G of the Fifteenth Judicial District of Louisiana. We want to be of service.
